National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Choose AudioSoft for Radar Recording Analysis
AudioSoft has been awarded a substantial contract by NATS to supply and install its advanced digital recording solution, RadarPC, at LTCC West Drayton. Two AudioSoft radar recorders both with separate hot standby backup are used for recording all radar communications in a geographic area which covers most of England, Wales and Northern France.
Key to the success of winning the contract was AudioSoft’s ability to utilize COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) equipment with the attendant advantage of whole life cost savings, into a solution that included both resiliency and redundancy options.
The recording demands of the LTCC West Drayton site called for significant data storage facilities. Each recorder features a minimum 345GB RAID assembly to meet the requirements of 31 days instant online storage access, with data backup and archiving requirements handled by DVD RAM.
The contract also included an order for two AudioSoft SmartAdditions, SmartClock and SmartAlarm. SmartClock allows accurate time synchronization between a Troy Systems TAI-130 Timeon/ASCII interface and each RadarPC recorder. SmartAlarm monitors the system status and alerts by both remote alarm unit and dry contacts notification to a remote monitoring unit of any system failure.

Commenting on the installation Phil Underwood Deputy Project Manager RARE Replacement stated “The new RARE system was formally transferred to operational status on Thursday 27th February 2003 being delivered on time and under budget” he further stated “Reports from system users are highly favorable and it was evident that everyone worked as part of a team and was highly cooperative. We are confident that the AudioSoft system will provide effective service for many years to come”.
