Belgocontrol extend AudioSoft network capability with control tower ambient recording

AudioSoft are pleased to announce a further contract award by Belgocontrol to add to that awarded in 2005 - see here. As part of the CANAC upgrade program currently being undertaken, AudioSoft are to extend the delivered system to support the further digitization of the ATC control center. The new system will truly be a leader in its class, through 46 pairs (for dual redundancy) of E1 trunks, each with 30 channels, there will be no less than 2760 recording channels. All recorders will be networked to the existing 25 AudioPC Replay and Management workstations to provide users with remote access to recordings received from both Analog and Digital sources.

In addition, in order to meet new International Civil Aviation Organization recommendations in Annex 44, Belgocontrol have commissioned AudioSoft to include ambient audio recording. Whilst ICAO recommends the retention of 24 hours of ambient recording, AudioSoft will be providing retention of in excess of 31 days to ensure that complete scenario recreation is possible, at any time in the mandated audio retention period, through the use of compression techniques and RAID technology.

Says Armand Van Cappellen, Manager, Navigation-Communication division, Belgocontrol “value the ability to be able to easily upgrade and expand the PC based system”. As well as offering high quality systems, AudioSoft “have a flexible approach and their assistance in installation, training, configuration and support has also been of a very high standard” states Van Cappellen.

AudioSoft’s ATC Business Development Manager David Hindon explains further “Belgocontrol approached us needing a state-of-the-art solution to a complex problem. World leaders in adopting new systems, Belgocontrol needed a solution that could be tailored to their requirements and, most importantly, was easily upgradeable. The remote network capabilities combined with the huge number of analog and digital channels make this a system that few competitors would have been able to match, let alone support.” It is this combination of experience and flexibility that is putting AudioSoft ahead of the competition for ATC solutions.
